Growing global expansion and revenue generation of oil and gas in Azerbaijan

Here are some comments from me regarding growing global expansion and revenue generation of the oil and gas business centered on developments inside Azerbaijan as SOCAR Trading marks 20 years.

"-Azerbaijan, SOCAR, SOCAR Trading and their international partners continue to produce huge social benefits for the national good and energy security around the region, making SOCAR one of the biggest names on markets around the world.

Commenting on the historic groundbreaking agreement made 20 years ago in Baku on the development of national energy resources by more than 13 of the world's most important oil majors, Mr. Alizade noted the importance of ventures that have changed the face of the energy business around the world and produced new volumes of crude and also greater valuations, in particular:

-The world-class partnership between SOCAR, SOCAR Trading and companies like BP, Amoco, Exxon, LUKoil and others have generated investments exceeding more than 50Billion US Dollars.

-SOCAR Trading's world-class operations have greatly expanded the scope and reach of sales, entering into refineries stretching from Europe to the Middle East to Asia and Africa.

-SOCAR Trading because of its professional services and high governance accounting standards yielded cumulative funds greater than 1.1Billion US Dollars to the Azerbaijan Treasury over the past 5 years."

This is for our country, SOCAR and SOCAR Trading a record of international cooperation and investment in our nation and marketplace that is a model of its kind, without precedent in the region.

UGE -Tapping into the best of both worlds between Baku and Dubai

For more than 10 years I have been operating my UGE companies between Baku and Dubai, working with national and international partners, and where Dubai acts as a gateway to Baku just as Baku is a bridge to Dubai.

Let me explain what I mean and help make clear how we at Union Grand Energy are accelerating material exchanges, logistical services and learning between Baku and Dubai.

Our work in energy, construction, trade and technology development forms a natural synergy, between companies, cultures and markets-we transfer what we learn, apply and know from one location to the other.

It means that we have been able to attract high levels of national and international capital and investment.

We started with advanced computer electronics, which quickly became a model for further applications and high-tech services, trading and manufacturing.  Where we could we created the design and blueprints for these systems ourselves, and then 'exported' them to our other businesses. This kind of entrepreneurship helped our companies grow and expand in Baku, and have created a bigger more modern domestic marketplace.

It also makes us more innovative, open and competitive, where we know and understand how business gets done, working inside stable and predictable environments, where we welcome foreign investment.

What matters most to us wherever we are working is protecting and promoting the domestic interest of a country and public in all our ventures, helping support national economic and social fundamentals.

Union Grand Energy - Committed to Smart and Sustainable Development

Our focus doing business, at home and overseas, is on developing and finding new technologies to be more competitive and efficient in our ventures and services.

We call it smart and sustainable development.

What does that mean in our projects and partnerships?

We can see, for example, in our work with international partners on the massive Baku White City redevelopment venture, that our use of new forms of technologies to reclaim abandoned land and build 21st century infrastructure using the latest environment-friendly methods. This kind of public and private partnership, where we combine expertise, investment and cutting edge modern resources, is a model for our business.

Likewise, our upstream oil project at Azerbaijan's Surakhani Oil field, where we have made massive investments to rehabilitate decayed and decrepit facilities, transforming the infrastructure and totally renewing  producing assets, with more than 60 new wells drilled, and more than doubling volumes (you can view images here).

On all our projects we take seriously our mission to not just upgrade facilities but to work actively to improve economic and social conditions for our workers and citizens, including good salaries and jobs. At Surakhani we have kept and added jobs, paid millions in taxes, and continue to invest and reinvest in the community.

One of our projects at Union Grand Energy that will revitalize the landscape of Baku is our White City development.

Working closely with international ventures like Atkins (UK), Foster and Partners (UK) and our Azerbaijan partners, White City is being built as one of the biggest urban development and land reclamation projects constructed on land ecologically reclaimed from a former industrial zone.

Our company mission on all the projects we undertake is to bring high-tech innovation to each of our ventures, in the process creating new work, social activity and economic progress, transforming old and obsolete infrastructure into modern restorations and renewals.

Business in Baku, Business in Dubai

People ask me all the time about what it is like to do business in Baku and Dubai.

I remind them that we also have business activities in Turkey and Singapore, so we can say that we are really an international company increasingly doing business around the world.

I would say that Baku and Azerbaijan remain the place where we think of as home, where we develop and do our core business.

We are known in the Caspian region and CIS countries for the work we do in the energy industry. That means mainly production and exports. We have built our business as a leading seller of oil machinery and equipment. We are growing and expanding all the time, most recently into trademarked chemical manufacturing.

We have been active in Dubai for more than 10 years. We got started there in computer electronics. This became a model for us to move into other sectors. I can say that our companies were among the first from Azerbaijan to come and settle in Dubai. We are centralizing and coordinating more of our businesses from Dubai for the UAE and Gulf Region.

Our focus on trading is developing rapidly, with more and more activity being generated from the sale of petrochemical products, crude oil and oil equipment. Construction and real estate are also areas where we continue to develop and look for new opportunities.

Caring for the communities where we do business

Travelling many days each month for the work that I do between Baku, Azerbaijan and Dubai, I am always interested in seeing and hearing how other business leaders make a public contribution, give back and be part of the communities we work in. It is the highest priority for me.

For example, our Surkhani Operating Company support families in need and war veterans. Other areas of interest for me are supporting children with illness and special needs

In addition, the very way we do business is conducted with the rebuilding and revitalizing of communities as a priority. Much of our work has been dedicated to the transformation of old factories into modern facilities using the latest technologies.

Our aim is simple: we want to protect and preserve old jobs, and we want to create new, additional employment.

Charity begins at home & home is where the heart is

http://azerbaijan.savethechildren.net/media/photos

I am a firm believer that charity begins at home, whether that means personally or socially, taking care of those that you love and that are in need of love is critical for the well being of humanity. In my opinion, despite Azerbaijan turning full-throttle into a largely developed country, there are still voids that exist in healthcare and welfare for children.

Which brings me on to Save the Children; the international organization that promotes children's rights is providing technical assistance to the Azerbaijani Government in order to facilitate efficient and effective development.

According to its website, Save the Children has been active in Azerbaijan since December 1993, arriving in response to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Supporting the uprooted Azerbaijani population by providing not only immediate relief, but the assistance needed to ensure access to long-term health, education and employment opportunities.

Save the Children initially managed an emergency response umbrella grant program, through which it funded and coordinated international relief efforts. The organization shifted its focus to development programs in 1998 and since then, Save the Children has been directly implementing programs in partnership with international and national NGOs, businesses, communities and the Azerbaijani government to help families and communities care for the needs of children by reforming the child welfare system, promoting economic opportunities, encouraging family and community healthy lifestyles, improving basic social and physical infrastructure, and developing new educational materials and curricula.

Let’s help make a change for Azerbaijan and the world!

Donate towards Save the Children’s global action fund here; any donation will be appreciated I’m sure.
